42D: Life is meaningless.
E: What makes you say that?
D: Nothing has any meaning. There is no real reason for anything to exist. Nothing benefits from anything…you work hard, and then you die. And there might not even be a heaven.
E: But it’s fun.
E: Life. It’s fun. That’s all you need.
D: So what? If something’s going to be fun it should be fun for, like, two hundred years. And humans don’t live two hundred years. Most people only get to live for seventy or eighty. And we spend a lot of that time learning stuff that we probably won’t use and working hard to please people we don’t know or care about. We have a pathetically allotted amount of fun time.
E: Would you rather not be alive at all?
D: That’s not what I’m saying. The point is, there is no logical reason for the universe to exist. I mean…where did all this crap come from? Stuff doesn’t just appear. At least that’s what all the scientists say.
